This final year module is designed for students who have spent a year abroad in a Portuguese-speaking country. It strives to help students further develop and consolidate their advanced language skills in Brazilian Portuguese through the study of different aspects of Brazilian culture and society. This module will make extensive use of authentic and online materials where emphasis will be placed on the critical analysis of various texts.
At the end of the course students should be able to
* Demonstrate a critical understanding of complex specialised and non-specialised texts.
* Write complex texts in Portuguese (reports, summaries, essays etc) on different specialized topics, using different registers.
* Take part in discussions as well as developing oral presentations on specialized topics.
* Demonstrate critical understanding of different types of aural texts.
* Demonstrate a thorough critical awareness of key aspects of Brazilian and Portuguese culture and society.
* Have developed academic, transferable study skills such as independent learning, critical, analytical thinking, problem-solving, team-working, planning and delivering oral presentations, time-management, use of electronic media.
