The theme for PY455 Summer 2023 is The Phenomenological Method Today and How to Use It. Students will be introduced to 1) classical phenomenology, 2) qualitative phenomenological research, 3) applied phenomenology, 4) critical phenomenology, 5) genetic phenomenology, 6) generative phenomenology, and 7) Besinnung (or critical-historical reflection). We will read a mixture of classical and contemporary texts, but above all we will focus on putting phenomenological research methods to work in the students’ own Capstone projects. As much as possible, we will learn phenomenology by doing it.
