Breakout Rooms - limits

We have a 300 person max per meeting license

We can create 50 breakout rooms max

You can have up to 300 people in a single breakout room (although not a likely scenario) therefore any combination of 50 rooms and different numbers of people up to 300 is possible in each room. Here are some examples:

  • 50 rooms of 6 people = 300 max
  • 15 rooms of 20 people = 300 max
  • 20 rooms of 5 people and 10 rooms of 20 people = 300 max
  • 2 rooms of 150 people = 300 max
  • Or any other combination that doesn’t exceed 50 breakout rooms and 300 people
    • For example: 10 rooms of 5 people = 50 people

This all works fine if the breakout rooms are being assigned in the meeting, For pre-assigning 300 people Zoom will limit the pre-assign to 200 people. The remaining 100 need to be assigned once the meeting has started. So not a problem if the cohort has less than 200 people.

By default, only the host or co-host can assign participants to breakout rooms.

Users joined into the Zoom meeting from the Zoom Mobile App or H.323/SIP devices can participate in breakout rooms, but cannot manage them.

If the meeting is being cloud recorded, it will only record the main room, regardless of what room the meeting host is in. If local recording is being used, it will record the room the participant who is recording is in. Multiple participants can record locally. Specific permission has to be actively given by the host for anyone else to record.
