This is a module for students who have passed LA440 Advanced Spanish or who have an equivalent level of Spanish. To take this module students should have reached level B2 according to the European Framework for Languages. The module emphasises writing and speaking in preparation for the study abroad. The materials deal with important events of Spanish and Latin American culture and the society within which they took place. Constant links with modern issues are introduced in every unit of the module. The aim of the module is to widen the learners’ awareness and knowledge about the Spanish-speaking societies and cultures worldwide and to provide them with the appropriate training to develop intellectual skills such as critical reasoning, application of concepts and identification and solution of problems. The module facilitates the analysis and interpretation of authentic data in Spanish through the study of Spanish structures and lexis. It also encourages students to adopt autonomous learning skills and an investigative approach to tackle grammatical and lexical problems in a wider system.
By the end of the module students will be able to take notes with ease; use different
advanced varieties of written and spoken Spanish; analyse Spanish and Latin American
prose; write commentaries, reports and essays in Spanish. Students will be able to use
spoken Spanish to show a range of styles and emotions in conversations, exchanges,
presentations, situationals, debates and seminars; and would also have acquired a set of
