This advanced module follows the Spanish to Portuguese Conversion module (LA 333). The module focuses on the development of the complex mastery of grammatical structures and aims to enhance an awareness of different kinds of registers in texts in a range of text types. Students will further develop written, aural/oral and reading skills. A course book will be used in conjunction with authentic materials (newspapers, videos, online resources) exploring the cultural and social diversity of the Portuguese-speaking community. At the end of the module students should be able to
* Demonstrate critical understanding and evaluation of complex short texts from newspapers and magazines and also of short literary texts.
* Write texts on different non-specialized and specialized topics.
* Interact in everyday oral situations as well as in discussions on some specialized topics with due attention to context and register.
* Demonstrate critical understanding of complex aural texts in the form of dialogues, interviews, documentaries etc.
* Have developed academic, transferable study skills such as independent learning, critical, analytical thinking, problem-solving, team-working, planning and delivering oral presentations, time-management, use of electronic media.
