Aims and objectives
Russian Beginners One is part of the Languages for All programme. It aims to provide students with:
a. the basic language skills necessary to communicate in Russian in simple, everyday tasks and situations related to living, studying or working in Russia
b. the ability to comprehend and write in Cyrillic script
c. an introduction to Russian culture and to living in a Russian-speaking environment
d. the basic structures and language study skills to ensure progression in language proficiency
The main goal of Russian Beginners One is to help students acquire the basic language skills needed to cope with simple, everyday conversations in Russian. Students also learn about aspects of life and culture in present-day Russia. Among the skills taught in Russian Beginners One are the following: to converse with others in typical daily settings; to read simple standard Russian texts; to understand how to ask for information in familiar situations and topics and how to understand the given information. Students also learn vocabulary and responses typically related to work or study issues. More specific details are provided to the students at the first lesson in the Q and A session.
