Refugees and internally displaced persons constitute around 65 million people or 1 percent of the planet’s population. The focus of this course is on the protection they receive in international law. Legal definitions of refugee status are the focus along with the guarantees provided in international human rights law, and the limitations placed on their international commitments by states in Europe and North America.
