The aim of the module is to introduce students to the range of physiotherapy core skills and their safe and effective utilisation. This will include exercise, in relation to physiotherapy treatment and health promotion, manual therapy techniques, such as massage and passive movements and the use of electro-physical agents. Additionally the module will aim to introduce students to core assessment strategies including subjective assessment and communication and objective assessment skills such as clinical measurement and assessment. At the end of the module the students will have an initial introduction to practice activity via clinical observational visits.
Module content
Principles of kinesiology and exercise physiology
* Application of passive and active assisted exercise
* Free exercise delivery and prescription both for individual patients and groups
* Ergonomic principles
* Subjective and objective assessment approaches including goniometry, limb measurement, passive movements.
* Movement and gait analysis
* Massage
* Electrotherapy theory and application.
