This module is aimed at introducing you to the structure of the UK criminal justice system. The module begins with a focus on the recent history of criminal justice policy in England and Wales, followed by an overview of the structure of the system. The module content focuses on some of the most ‘hot button’ issues in the UK criminal justice system today, and ones which present important dilemmas and questions about the achievement of social justice within criminal justice policy and practice. These issues are not exhaustive, but are aimed at providing a starting point for analyzing key ethical issues, tensions and debates in contemporary criminal justice policy with an eye toward their social justice consequences.
