HR develop, advise and support staff on people management and leadership practices. We support the delivery of the University’s strategic plan. This is done by developing innovative employment strategy, policy, procedures and services. We take great care to balance the needs of the employee and the needs of the University.

Employee Relations and Reward

This subsection of HR is split up into four areas, as follows:

Employee Relations Operations - Provide advice and guidance on a range of enquiries relating to employment at Essex. Working across HR, the team helps to build the capacity and capability of staff. By offering a range of solutions, staff are better able to make good decisions.

Resourcing - Ensures that we have the right staff with the right skills. We work with managers to develop recruitment skills. We also develop and advise on best recruiting practices across the University. The resourcing team also advises on the UKVI requirements when recruiting internationally.

Payroll and Pension - Responsible for ensuring all payroll payments made are accurate and on time. We're currently process all time sheets, maternity, other absence and pension contributions. We also support the many pension schemes in place at the University. We can also provide guidance on retirement as well as all other aspects of our pension scheme rules.

Management Information - Data from our management information team aids decision making across the University. This assists with the attainment of accreditation and awards. We responds to the University’s statutory returns. This includes things such as HESA, Gender Pay Gap reporting, Equal Pay Audit and the Equality and Diversity Inclusion Charters.

Organisational Development

This sub section of HR includes: 

  • Academic and Professional Practice; 
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion;  
  • Engagement and Employment Policy;
  • Technology Enhanced Learning. 

This brings together expertise in professional development and curriculum innovation.

Workplace Health and Wellbeing

This sub section of HR includes the occupational health and health and safety teams. We actively promote and maintain good health, safety and well-being at Essex. We also provide support when health, safety and well-being issues occur.
