This module provides an introduction to the study of History at university level. As such, no previous background in History is necessary. The module will have no single focus on any one period or geographical area, but will use examples from a range of different historical themes, time periods and countries. The main aim of the module is to introduce students to the study of History as an academic discipline and equip them with the necessary tools with which to study the subject. Students will begin to develop the skills employed by professional historians, as well as developing key transferable skills useful for university study and beyond.
Weekly workshops introduce the skills that are required throughout your history degree, with a focus on practical in-class exercises, along with 'mini-lectures'. Throughout the module there are opportunities for self- and peer-assessment of work, which build towards a diverse range of small assessed assignments and tests. All readings and materials are supplied in a dedicated study pack.
