This module is designed as an introduction to law for students on a range of entrepreneurship and business courses. It is concerned with the development of an understanding of the legal framework and business related areas of law and the application of learning to analysing the legal context of various business situations. The course is structured to cover five broad and interrelated issues: a) the legal environment, b) the legal formalities of business, c) principles of contract law, d) tort law in a business context, and e) the intellectual property law. It examines issues such as the English legal system, European Union Law, dispute resolution, sources of law; the legal forms involving in setting up a business; contract formation, content of contracts, and termination of contracts; tort of negligence; intellectual property. The course, therefore, explores business related areas of law in the context of entrepreneurship and business development. The course will provide a basis for a critical understanding of the place and function of law in an entrepreneurship and business context as well as the introductory elements of business law, commercial law and intellectual property law.
