This course intends to equip students with good analytical skills in order to understand the implications of corporate financing decisions, and to enable students to understand the theoretical underpinnings of corporate finance theory. The main aim of the course is to enable students to obtain a thorough understanding of the main theoretical and practical issues concerning the short and long-term financial decisions made by corporations, and the analytical tools that are applied to make these decisions. The module examines the objectives of the corporation and the goals of the financial manager together with the Board of Directors in a corporate context. The students will then develop an appreciation of the particular environments within which corporations operate, through an analysis of their interaction with financial markets and intermediaries. This will be followed by a consideration of how corporations value particular assets, use critical information and communicate technologies, make investment decisions and manage risk and returns.
