The module offers the methods elements for the Anthropology degree scheme and incorporates basic ethnographic research methods in the autumn term that covers the theories, ethics and philosophical and conceptual bases of ethnographic research methods. In the spring term there will be a field trip to Sri Lanka that introduces students to the practices of anthropological research. The field work will combine some formal instruction with exposure to living and interacting with people who are part of complex ethno-religious cultures. A series of visits to cultural sites constitute a component of this module. The main element of the module is a one week stay among Free Trade Zone factory workers in the Katunayake area where students will conduct small-scale ethnographic research.
