This introductory Portuguese module is especially devised for students with A-level Spanish/Italian/Romanian knowledge or equivalent. It aims to develop written, aural/oral and reading skills in Portuguese to an advanced level (exit level comparable to Threshold Level (B1) of the Common European Framework). Students will also be introduced to aspects of Brazilian/Portuguese culture and society through the use of authentic texts.
At the end of the module students should be able to
* Understand and evaluate the gist of short texts from newspapers and magazines and also short literary texts.
* Write letters and short compositions on different non-specialized topics.
* Interact in everyday oral situations.
* Understand the gist of aural texts in the form of dialogues, interviews etc.
* Appreciate key facets of Brazilian cultural and social reality.
* Have developed academic, transferable study skills such as independent learning, problem-solving, team-working, time-management, use of electronic media.
