- TRANSLATION: Students will develop an awareness of the multiple dimensions of meaning of French/English written texts representing different fields and the ability to discriminate the most salient of these for the purpose envisaged both for the original text and for the translation. They will also refine and deepen their understanding of both their own and the target language and culture.
- INTERPRETING: students will be introduced to liaison and consecutive interpreting, the difficulties it poses, and the basic skills and linguistic knowledge it requires. They will acquire the ability to listen actively and analytically, memorise (sizeable statements), summarise, interpret and communicate effectively in both languages.
-SUBTITLING: students will finally be given an insight into the basic principles and specific challenges of subtitling, and will be able to use and test their translation strategies by subtitling short clips with the professional software, Wincaps.
