This course is designed to enable you to understand the way in which sport and exercise can have a positive effect on mental health. A critical approach will be taken to these putative relationships and you will also begin to learn the language of applied psychology

By the end of the course you should have learned about several mental health issues and have discovered how sport and exercise interventions can be beneficial to them. You will also consider the impact of injury or the end of a sporting career has on one's personal psychology.

Learning Outcomes:
To pass this module students will need to be able to:
1. consider the relationship between physical activity and mental health;
2. describe various theories and models of mental health and psychological well-being;
3. describe various theories and models concerned with the putative relationship between physical activity and mental health;
4. critically assess these relationships;
5. provide evidence for this knowledge by being able to cite the published work of key workers in this area;
6. use the key skills of retrieval of information, data analysis and interpretation, communication and identifying and solving problems.
