This module is co-ordinated by Dr Deborah Fantini, to whom queries should be addressed.

Aims: The module aims to cover topics in the area of the perception of complex sounds. Nearly all of the sounds we hear are complex, i.e., sounds that are more than pure sine waves presented in isolation. The module will begin with coverage of basic psychoacoustic research on relatively simple complex sounds, such as a sum of sinewaves presented simultaneously, and also the perception of sounds in a sequence. Then the coverage will expand into an investigation of two more naturalistic complex sounds with which we are more familiar: speech and music.

Please note that the examination for this module will take place in January.
