In this module the five core elements of Laboratory Management will be covered, i.e. I) Leadership; II) the Pathology Regulatory and Health and Safety Environment; III) Management of Operations - Financial, Business and Project; IV) Pathology Information Technology and V) Integrated Management.
I) Leadership is a core area of management. This module introduces the key concepts, relating to management generally and specifically to clinical laboratories. Learning management knowledge is a feature of all the module topics with the development of specific skills and qualities enabling participants to access resources for ongoing learning.
II) Regulation has become increasingly prominent in pathology and with quality management and health and safety management will be covered in this module.
III) Effective financial management supports an effective organisation, expressing in financial terms all its activities. Business and project management seeks to provide an objective framework for ensuring appropriate decisions are made and carried through to timely completion.
IV) Pathology is dependent on information technology to function. This two-hour lecture will explore all aspects from microprocessor dependent technology to patient administration system integration.
V) Integrating all facets of management is an essential skill for pathology managers, this workshop will provide scenarios to enable participants to develop their ability to integrate the knowledge and skills learnt during the module.
