This module aims to introduce students to the role of law in protecting the environment looked at from international, European and UK domestic perspectives

The course is designed to focus on issues which are significant in their own right but which are also indicative of general approaches concerned with legal protection of the environment. The course deals with the following main areas: (i) theories of environmental law; (ii) development of the common law as a tool for protecting the environment; (iii) international regulation of environmentally sensitive activities; (iv) the regulatory systems being developed by domestic and European Community law concerned with waste, water and air pollution (climate change) leading to an integrated approach; and (v) legal protection of flora and fauna and habitat.
