The objective of the module is to enable students to take the first steps in using mathematics to express economic reasoning. On completion of the module, students will have acquired knowledge of the mathematical methods needed to comprehend economic principles. Each student will be acquainted with simple economic models expressed in a formal way. Students will be able to carry out elementary mathematical operations on these models and interpret the economic meaning of the relevant mathematical concepts (e.g. derivatives interpreted as marginal quantities).

Module aims
