Healthcare professionals, including Speech and Language therapists, are applying evidence based practice (EBP) principles in an increasingly complex working environment. Effective health provision is achieved by skilled clinicians utilising the three EBP domains of research, clinical experience and expertise, and patient experience or perspective to achieve decisions around assessment and intervention. Shared decision making is core to the NHS values.

The decision making process demands a range of clinical reasoning skills: the ability to synthesise information from a range of sources, to critically appraise research and other evidence, to elicit and take account of patient views and to incorporate these with clinical experience.

This module sets out to examine, to critically analyse and evaluate EBP in real-life contexts and to strengthen clinical reasoning (CR) and clinical decision making skills (CDM) within this complex context. It has been designed for experienced clinicians working in clinical or educational settings.
