This is an additional credit module which provides ongoing support in English language and academic skills development to students who have been identified by either the University English Language Assessment or their department.
The module provides support and guidance in undergraduate assignment preparation and writing. Coursework for the module is also intended to raise the level of your academic English and study skills. Class tasks and module assignments have been designed to link directly to your degree subject studies.
On successful completion of the module, you should be able to: identify your strengths and weaknesses as a user of English for Academic Purposes; make best academic use of your English language knowledge; identify your academic needs in relation to course requirements (e.g. essay titles) and workload, and implement strategies for meeting these needs; comprehend and produce academic writing within your departmental discipline; understand and follow writing conventions; communicate more effectively in written English; write with greater confidence, clarity, and accuracy; use self-study resources and self-edit written work.
